Even though I gained valuable experience and met many lifetime friends climbing the corporate ladder in one of the of the largest banks in the world, I've always been an entrepreneur at heart.  After 8 years, I made the leap into a world that continues to fascinate and excite me.
To me there's nothing like being in business for yourself - even with all the challenges.  Here's a sampling of the things I've been up to since I left the comfort of my title and paycheck.

Web site Designer, Developer since 1994.   I built my first website completely in HTML when the Internet was still a very big mystery. It began as a hobby and challenge - when it was easy to be #1 on Yahoo, which was the big site then - and long before most people had computers!  Gradually I began building sites for others and now do sites in every genre!  Things have changed dramatically in the last 10 years; now one of the biggest challenges is being seen when there is so much competition.  Fortunately, most web publishers do not know how to make a site search engine friendly, so getting to the top is not as hard as one might think.  It does, however, require patience!

Web Publisher since 1994 and one of my early web site design experiences, pairing travel with technology in the travelzine, FunTripsLIVE.com.  I wrote many of the articles in the series and the site was in the top 100 thousand for awhile, but even now, when I don't work it so much, it still gets a lot of traffic.

Published author of Couples at Work, a guide to working with your spouse!  I co-authored the book with my husband after working together for a year and a half and discovering how powerful teaming up with someone you love can be when done "right"!

Operations Director of Jamesville Office Furnishings.  This is where I learned what it's like to work with someone you love!  Frankly, it was awful in the beginning!  How we both hated to let go of control! Fortunately, it didn't take us long to figure it out and turned the whole thing into tremendous experience.  We sold the company a year and a half later for a sizeable profit.

My previous  banking experience came in handy at Jamesville.  When I arrived on the scene, the company needed serious reorganization, internal controls, a good marketing plan and a to-die-for salesman - or two.   The employees desperately needed training and a few good morale boosters.  By the time we sold the company we were a tight little family of ten and the company was written up as a success model.

Tour Operator - a former teacher and I partnered up and led tours out of Sacramento, CA into Napa/Sonoma for wine tastings, San Francisco for factory outlet shopping, Lake Tahoe and Reno for casino adventures, the Gold Country and out to the Delta for thousands of miles of river experiences.

In the beginning, we did it all!  Besides being guides, we researched the areas we covered. (That meant a lot of trips out of town and a hours reviewing tours, restaurants, bars and attractions to be sure we offered the very best experience for our clients - somehow we managed)!   I wrote the scripts and all the marketing and promotional materials.  Our company thrived until we sold it five years later to a tour operator that had been in Sacramento for over 20 years!

And before taking that leap . . .

Bank Executive - my first career!  In the eight years I worked for Bank of America, I was promoted six times.  All my assignments were in resort towns beginning in Lake Tahoe, then the vintage and victorian Nevada City and finally legendary San Francisco.  Bank of America has long been known for the thorough and intense training it offers its employees; I was no exception.

My positions in the retail end as Operations Officer, Branch Administrator and then Manager, gave me an up-close-and-personal experience in dealing with people, budgets and planning.  It was a most rewarding, although exhausting, assignment.

My final mission took me to Customer Service headquarters in San Francisco where I developed customer service standards and wrote handbooks, manuals and contracts for retail units to use in implementing procedures.

Somewhere in my experience is knowledge, understanding or insight that may help you with your project or business.   I may not be familiar with your product, but I can learn that quickly enough, and together we can design and develop a web site that will bring your traffic for years to come.  The general processes and techniques for promoting and running a business, designing a website, and handling employees are basically the same for every business.   I've probably got some ideas for you.
